Driving Stronger Catchments for Thriving Communities

The Cassowary Coast River Improvement Trust is a not-for-profit, community based, statutory authority dedicated to the sustainable management and enhancement of river catchments within the Cassowary Coast region.

Operating across over 120 kilometres of coastline, the Trust focuses on four major river catchments – Johnstone, Tully, Liverpool and Murray – that flow into the Great Barrier Reef lagoon.

Our Mission

Our mission is to implement strategic, science-based projects that mitigate flood risks, reduce bank erosion, and improve water quality, thereby contributing to the health of both our local ecosystems and the Great Barrier Reef.

Through collaborative efforts with government agencies, local communities, and Traditional Owners, we strive to protect and restore the natural integrity of our waterways for current and future generations.

  • Partnerships – Work with us through your business, community group, or land management initiative.
  • Volunteer – Help with on-ground projects like site inspections, tree planting, erosion monitoring, and habitat restoration.
